Issue:

Why can't I import a Horiba NGC file on my 64-bit computer?

Possible Solutions:

At the time this FAQ was written (April 2014), there remains an incompatibility between the 32-bit Horiba LabSpec importer used to read NGC files and the 64-bit versions of Matlab and Solo. If you are running the 64-bit version of either Matlab or Solo, they are unable to call the importer and, as such, cannot directly import NGC files.

Although Eigenvector and Horiba are actively working to resolve this issue, at this time there are two work-around solutions for users:

A) If you save your image in the SPC format, this can be imported directly into 64-bit Solo or Matlab. Once imported, you will need to convert the data to an image by providing the size of the image in pixels (the SPC format doesn't contain the specific image size information.) This is done in Solo or MIA_Toolbox in Matlab using the DataSet Editor's menu: "Transform > Convert to/from Image". In Matlab with MIA_Toolbox installed, you can also use the buildimage() function.

B) If you install the 32-bit version of Solo or Matlab (with PLS_Toolbox and MIA_Toolbox installed), this version of the software will be able to import the NGC file directly, although the size of the image will be limited to a smaller amount of memory. Once imported, you can save the image to a MAT file which can be imported directly by the 64-bit version of Solo or Matlab.
